I don't think he meant it in a disrespectful way. I've learned, during the few years I've been training, that there's a lot going on in jiu-jitsu. Meaning, back when jiu-jitsu first started to show up, many people didn't know what it was. So someone that is was a low level belt, will throw most people for a loop when it comes to grappling. Having no idea about it. As the years went on and jiu-jitsu started branching out and more started training and learning, the skill gap has been closing. Like if it would take the skill of a good blue belt to handle most fights, it may now take the level of a great purple belt to do it because a lot more train. The more someone trains, the more you have to train to be able to keep up. Because things change and, if you want to be on par with this art, I think you have to expand your knowledge and skillset.
